Wednesday 5th July - Windsurf **** River Orwell at Levington - sunny periods.

Foil - 19.28 knot max, 18.15 knot ave, 10.87 knot hour, 16.25 knot mile, 57.15 km., 15.89 knot alpha.

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Storm 5.2.

The overnight heavy rained had cleared away leaving all our water butts full, Mag is pleased and we woke to wall to wall sunshine and a good wind from the west, sadly Landguard weather station (HHA) is still down which most local windsurfers depend on! As the best wind was in the morning and it was supposed to cloud over I decided to head over to Levington Marina early arriving at 8.40 just in time to see the yellow Harwich Foot Ferry heading out, it must have moored up in the marina to avoid last nights bad weather! The tide was still fairly low but the river looked smooth and there was will over 20 knots blowing down the river from the right. Foil board was set up and I went with my 5.2 which proved OK for most of the session. I launched at 9.30 and using the small sail meant it was hard to sail down towards Felixstowe docks were the wind went patchy so I stayed on the corner for a long time just having fun gybing, in fact I did around 90 today and it took me two and a half hours to drrop one, then I fell in and scraped my leg against my foil:( I just love gybing with my 5.2 its so light in the hands, again there was quite a swell running down the middle of the river so nothing fast today, just mellow foiling enjoying the peace and quiet of my beautiful surroundings:) I then beat upriver making slow progress upwind because of the short runs but I did not mind, I past the dinghy pontoon where several youngsters were out in the breezy conditions having a great time, there were not many yachts out today and I was the only windsurfer too:) Getting knackerred and after dropping in a couple of times it was time to reach back to the marina which involved loads of runs, I was surprised to have sailed 35 miles being on the water nearly 3 hours. Another nice session on the Orwell, lucky to have it only 6 miles from home, so pack up, shower and home around one to hear about Mags day.
Mag had got her bike back from the repair shop but is nervous about cycling after her accident over 4 months ago but she actually pushed herr bike down to Felixstowe prom and rode the whole length of it, her wrist is still far from right but she made it home with no mishaps, she is a star:)
